World's First Organic Vegetable Terrarium

Problem Statement : Understanding The Dire Needs Of Today

The recent COVID-19 lockdown demonstrates a global urgency for making nutritious food accessible to all in times of crisis. In fact, the United Nations and World Bank Group has reported that COVID-19 impacts have led to severe and widespread increases in global food insecurity, affecting vulnerable households in almost every country, with impacts expected to continue through 2021 and into 2022.

Combined with the fact that….

  1. … conventional farming is damaging to the planet and heavily dependent on the supply chain to reach the end consumer,

  2. … community gardening has yet to yield any proven results for reducing food insecurity among urban poor homes

  3. …. home gardening depends on skills & knowledge of the grower - which comes mostly with experience. It is still considered a hobby, hence tools and necessities are still priced for hobbyists.

  4. … Malaysia has lost 20 years of agricultural knowledge to industrialization, and most urbanites (both rich and poor) do not know where to even begin.

If you don’t feed people, you feed conflict.  Conflict drives hunger and famine, and hunger and famine drive conflict.

Solution In Baby Steps

A Regenerative Terrarium That Produces Food From Thin Air

Imagine being able to continuously harvest nutritious, organic vegetables - planted in an enclosed self-watering terrarium with complete soil biology, protected from pests & diseases, WITHOUT ANY NEED FOR FERTILIZERS.

This terrarium is a special invention designed by paraplegic farmers Dr. Billy Tang - for the PWDs / OKUs and marginalized groups as they are physically, mentally, and financially unable to compete with the rest of society for access to nutritious food to combat this health pandemic.

All one needs to do is to place the box by the window, or any area of the house that will receive maximum sunlight.

  • Unrefrigerated & Zero Food Miles (Reduce Carbon Footprint)

  • Alive & Fresh Vegetables (Non-decomposing)

  • Self-Watering With Condensation

  • Packed with Trace Minerals & Micronutrients

  • Harvest at the comfort of your home

  • Regenerative For >3 Months

  • No pesticide or synthetic chemicals.

  • No urea or growth boosters

We must rapidly SCALE UP NUTRITION among the urban poor, as our healthcare system is currently extremely burdened by the rising COVID19 cases and would not be able to accommodate any more illnesses accompanied by poor diet and lifestyle!

A Regenerative Terrarium That Sinks Carbon At Household Levels

Our terrarium is a decentralized food-production unit sitting right in your house. It is self-watering, self-regenerative with soil biology.

For consumers, this means fresh, nutritious, live, UNREFRIGERATED vegetables at the comfort of your own home.

For society, this means making nutritious food and meaningful jobs available for the marginalized communities.

For earth, we're innovating to zero carbon in terms of food miles, food waste, refrigeration, plastic use, land use, fertilizer use, and water use.

These terrariums not only enable the poor to eat healthily, but also for long-term carbon reduction and carbon sequestration for positive climate impact.

We calculated that 60,000 units of our terrarium sequester 900kg of CO2 per year. And 60,000 units is not even 1% of the population in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.

But more importantly, we are bringing “socio-biological regeneration” and “climate change” into household conversations in each of these homes, introducing to them the severely underrated topic of soil health.

This is important because we need to raise public awareness on soil health, debunking myths like "you need to buy fertilizers to grow your vegetables".

We want to inculcate food literacy at home, so that people realize that ; they are what their food eats.

Finally we want to show that the disabled community can also contribute to nation building by becoming your farmer, your food, and your health.

Testimonies : A Gift Box That Keeps On Giving

  • Our longest-regenerating terrarium to date is 25 months (and still regenerating).

  • Our rehabilitation physician Dr. Akmal Hafizah from Hospital Sungai Buloh has been consuming vegetables harvested weekly from her terrarium for the past 19 months (and still counting)!

  • Our beneficiary welfare centers such as drug rehabs, homeless senior shelters, and children’s homes have been enjoying the terrariums for 10 months and counting.

How You Can Support Our Organic Vegetable Terrarium Project

Sponsor a low-food-budget OKU family. When you adopt a terrarium at RM200, you are enabling a needy family of 4 to 5 people to eat healthily for a minimum of 3 months. If you have more questions, please WhatsApp +60 12-233 0409 (Dr. Billy Tang) for more information. Thank you.
